Milan Sculpture 2025: Italy’s Only Fair Dedicated to the Plastic Arts Returns May 9–11
From May 9 to 11, 2025, Milano Scultura returns to the historic Villa Bagatti Valsecchi in Varedo for its 9th edition. Directed by Ilaria Centola and curated by Valerio Dehò, it remains the only Italian fair solely dedicated to the plastic arts. Unlike conventional art fairs with booths, Milano Scultura presents a unified exhibition layout where works interact with each other and the villa’s 18th-century architecture.
This year, around 30 selected galleries will showcase sculptures crafted from traditional materials like marble, bronze, and ceramics, as well as from recycled objects. The works will range in scale and format—from small pieces to large installations and public art projects—illustrating the broad spectrum of contemporary sculptural expression.
Dehò explains, “Sculpture thrives not in isolation but through its relationship with space and architecture. Villa Bagatti Valsecchi, with its varied interiors and perspectives, offers a unique setting that invites each artwork to be reimagined in context.”
Centola adds, “Our goal is to provide a thoughtfully curated snapshot of what sculpture means today, accessible to a wide audience.” In addition to gallery exhibitions, the program includes talks, performances, and two featured artist projects:
-
Afthonia, an anthological exhibition of Matteo Lo Greco, presents 15 works spanning from the 1980s to today. Lo Greco blends ancient lost-wax casting with modern flair, portraying voluptuous female figures that exude classical grace and playful irony.
-
A focus on Henri Beaufour explores his signature "Baroque expressionism" through a selection of small and medium-sized sculptures that reflect intense emotion and personal poetics.
A printed catalog, published by NFC Edizioni with texts by Dehò, will accompany the event, offering further insight into the artists and curatorial vision.
