Italy’s Non-EU Exports Jump 7.5% in March, Led by U.S. Demand

Italian exports to non-EU countries rose sharply in March, climbing 7.5% year-on-year and 2.9% from February, according to Italy’s National Statistics Institute (ISTAT). A standout contributor was the United States, where exports surged 41% ahead of newly announced U.S. tariffs on European goods, including cars, steel, and aluminum.

While exports grew, overall imports declined—though Italy saw sharp increases from specific regions, including a 71% rise in imports from Mercosur and a 45% increase from China.
Italy’s trade surplus with non-EU countries rose to €5.96 billion ($6.75 billion), up from €5.77 billion a year earlier.
