Italian Prime Minister-Designate Conte Announces New Cabinet Ministers

Italy's prime minister-designate, Giuseppe Conte, presented his list of ministers to President Sergio Mattarella.
The leader of Lega party Matteo Salvini becomes the interior minister, while the leader of Five Star Movement (M5S) Luigi Di Maio will serve as minister of labor and economic development. Both will assume the duties of deputy prime ministers.
Enzo Moavero Milanesi, who served as Italy's minister of European affairs from November 2011 to February 2014, assumes the post of foreign minister.
The Ministry of economy and Finance will work under the supervision of Giovanni Tria, Professor of political economy at the University of Rome “tor Vergata”. Economist Paolo Savona takes the post of Minister for European Affairs.
The Ministry of defence will be headed by “Movement” party's leader Elisabetta Trent, who has served as political advisor to the Italian foreign Ministry in Iraq and within the UN peacekeeping mission In Lebanon.
The new government must gain the approval of both chambers of the Italian parliament.
